Here is a yearly chart of gold for you to examine. It is evidence (based upon a common technical approach) that gold has almost reached a top from which the only future movement will be price declines. Everything has a limit. Golds is at the 2.5 standard deviation mark of a yearly chart. That does not mean it cannot shoot higher and put in a spectacular year to finish up this cycle, but it does mean you should think twice before investing too heavily in the stuff because the technicals warn we are near a termination top.

There will not be a lot of love for this post of mine. But I need to write this anyway since too many people have gone goofy over golds recent move yet very few of them have any background in the technical aspects of how price works. So I would like to push back against the euphoria by pointing out a few inconvenient truths.

In the chart below for example we can see that golds price is pretty clearly in a fifth wave move (Elliot) as it stands today. This is based on a hundred year chart. In fact no matter what historical chart we look at, gold is currently nearing the top of its upper range from where it will encounter serious resistance and go no further.

I am not putting a number on the actual final top in this post. Rather I just want to point out in general terms that we are nearer the top of a terminal upper range than a bottom and that structurally, golds upward advance in nominal terms is therefore fairly limited by the nature of its historical patterns.

The only gains possible beyond a certain point will be those acquired by outright currency devaluation. Since gold is priced in dollars it may seem obvious to some readers that a soaring gold price is guaranteed. But again, this whole idea of an imminent collapsing US Dollar is another faulty idea that is going to hit a brick wall soon for most people since it too is conjecture based and not well conceived.

For the moment, just keep in mind that gold is putting in a topping pattern now. Odds will soon favour a structural decline in the absence of a major dollar devaluation. So take care if you are betting the whole house on gold going to the moon and please do not fall for the snake oil sales pitches or allow yourself to be deluded by market prophets who are really no better than used car salesmen!

One of the more difficult aspects of working in economic analysis is the problem of rampant disinformation that you have to dig through in order to get to the truth of any particular issue. 

Establishment media sources lie incessantly about our financial conditions, and when they are finally cornered and forced to admit how bad things are, they then lie about the causes.  That said, I find that these lies are usually designed to do one of two things:  Over-complicate the problem so that people give up thinking about it, or, distract from the problem so that people blame a scapegoat.

The lesson here is that progressives are not willing to negotiate their open border agenda in the slightest, even to prevent child victimization…

The message being sent is that the political left needs media cover for their policies because their policies constantly fail (or succeed in being destructive, depending on how you look at it). They simply never intended for the surge of illegals to land on their doorstep. One area that is consistently damaging to the progressive image is the catch and release of numerous illegal migrant criminals who go on to harm innocent American citizens. The growing list of incidents surrounding migrant crime is creating a PR nightmare for Democrats.

People are starting to ask – If Democrats knowingly release dangerous migrant offenders onto the streets, are Democrats then accountable for the people those migrants go on to harm? For example, Haitian migrant Cory Alvarez, who was arrested for raping a 15 year old girl with disabilities in Massachusetts, entered the United States using the Biden administration’s CHNV parole program.

Nomadic Greetings!

Well, it’s finally happening: tomorrow, I will return home.

For the past few days, I’ve been the happy guest of friends in Auronzo di Cadore, Italy. This small town is a tranquil place in the Dolomites, the perfect place to end this long journey. Tomorrow morning, I will drive to Ljubljana, Slovenia and then spend the rest of the day flying to Oregon. If all goes as planned, I will arrive back at the starting point on Thursday night, exactly six months after beginning this trip.

Speaking of things heating up, the BBC ran an article yesterday that surprised no one except the entire Biden Administration. It bore the unfortunate headline, “Russia to grow faster than all advanced economies, says IMF.” The sub-headline added, “An influential global body has forecast Russia’s economy will grow faster this year than all of the world’s advanced economies, including the US.”

The headline should have read, “Joe Biden loses World War III.”

That wasn’t all yesterday. Bloomberg ran a similar story, this one headlined, “Russian Crude Shipments Surge to the Highest in Almost a Year.” It is now undeniable that the Biden Administration’s highly-publicized sanctions war against Russia has catastrophically failed. The U.S.’s faltering economy was well described yesterday in a Barrons article headlined, “Inflation Could Stick Around Much Longer. What to Do About It.”

A financial analyst quoted for the Barron’s story explained, “The backdrop of continued geopolitical stress is contributing to more persistent inflation and more caution.”

Pinning down colon cancer’s genetic or environmental causes has been a complex and long-running quest, but a new study in Nature points to a promising clue: a bacterium typically found in the human mouth. The study found that a specific subtype, or clade, within a subspecies of Fusobacterium nucleatum was linked to colon cancer growth and progression. These results, the study authors say, could lead to better noninvasive diagnostic methods for colon cancer and could even suggest new therapies targeting these bacteria for tumor elimination.

Additionally, the role of Saudi Arabia is unclear, both as a base for the United States and in terms of any actions by the Saudi military.

The House Administration Committee’s oversight panel, led by Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.), is holding a hearing Wednesday on the military’s response on Jan. 6. The EU needs new leadership as the bloc’s current top officials have proven entirely unsuccessful, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has claimed.

Orban made the comments at the European Parliament on Tuesday as part of a public discussion with Former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and the leader of the French National Rally party, Fabrice Leggeri.

“Now we have a leadership in the EU with some major projects selected by themselves like green transition, RRF (Recovery and Resilience Facility) policy, migration, war [in Ukraine] and sanctions policy, and they all failed,” Orban said.

“The present leadership of the European Union must go away. And we need new leaders,” the Hungarian prime minister insisted.

Orban said he intends “to come and take over Brussels,” reiterating his earlier warning to “occupy” the EU’s key institutions with his allies in order to bring change to the bloc.
